eLearning – managing change
e-Maturity is the state of preparation of an institution for employing technological developments to provide students with an effective e-Learning experience.
It is a national disgrace that [according to BECTA] 80% of teachers are not using their Interactive Whiteboards properly. At a school level, most of us appear not to be using this technological device to its full potential.
Schools and Colleges are supposed to be setting up VLE’s [virtual learning environments] where educational resources can be placed to support Student learning. Progress is patchy since many schools have only just got their ‘Moodle’ (or similar) functioning, and now face the task of persuading / training staff to use it.
Schools and Colleges are progressing towards an e-Learning infrastructure where educational resources will be stored so that Students can access them from School / College or Home.
The course is designed for managers who need to:
- manage the necessary changes, and purchase hardware/software
- understand the issues involved
- audit the quality of existing resources and their access
- develop a vision for where their Institution needs to be in 5/10 years
Delegates will get a Booklet and a CD Rom with exemplars.
Course outline – 1/2 day or full day
1. the Teaching and Learning situation as it is now – uninteractive , un-technological
2. Vision for the future – VLE’s, Blogs & Wikis, Learning programmes – examples
3. Auditing your college – find out what you need to change – infrastructure, staff training
4. Action plan for the next 5, 10 years – who does what. managing change

June: just spent a day doing a version of this course for a London tertiary College. The College are at the point of wanting to invest in eLearning, and recently had the RSC conduct a review of their progress. I introduced the context of eLearning and introduced the results of their review [just published]. There followed group/school discussion of what need to be done to make further progress – an action plan.
